Ancient Winds - The Rains Are Coming

$9,000.00
sold out

I had something else planned for this large canvas when I stapled it to my studio wall.  But weather and social pressures insisted on having a voice. I was living in a serious drought…hot and praying for rain! And NOTHING was working the way I wanted it to! I’d brushed a web of turquoise lines across the entire canvas, then with collaged ripped pieces of my hand-dyed tissue papers, I covered the whole painting.  I wanted a painting of birds; they were not accommodating me! I kept building layers of thinned white glaze along the rips and lines…adding a cloud-like dimension, as I continued struggling to hear what my canvas needed.

We finally got the rain! So much that it flowed under the door and spread into the studio.

Then the News Reels appeared; Children were ripped from their parents’ or guardians’ arms, and kept in cages as if they were dogs.      My heart HURT… I was ashamed!  I had just 4 of my tissue cut-outs of human figures left over from one of my Gratitude Paintings.

I rarely paint overtly controversial works…but. I went ahead and cut more adult figures; hands raised in outrage and prayer. Then the children with arms out wide, terrified, and so in need of being safely loved!

THIS PAINTING BECAME MY PRAYER FOR THOSE CHILDREN! That they somehow be able to grow into healthy human beings; able to forgive us, for what our government did to them.

The original was sold and is in private collections.
